Job Description
The bottom line is I work in telecommunication sales. I sell physical phones to individual customers, upgrade plans, fix phones, take payments, work with various providers (cingular, verizon, tmobile, etc.), or make wholesale arrangements with bigger clients. My day is mostly spent working in the storefront, dealing with anyone who may walk in. After we close, I'm also in charge of locking up and making sure we close out our registers. I also do the accounting for the store, making sure we aren't missing a cent.
Pros
It's my family's company, so my boss is my dad. We work in a casual environment so there is no need to waste money on business attire. Although I have a little bit of a commute to work, it's doable because the store does not open until 10am. We have very definite set hours. To see the business thrive is more personal since it is family-owned. This motivates me to genuinely give it my all.
Cons
I have to deal with a wide mix of customers. Most are fine, but there are also a good amount of nutballs. They can try to scheme you, anger you, test your patience, but I have to always keep my cool. This can get very trying on me, especially if the day has been busy already. I also deal with people who are not affluent in English, making my job that much more difficult. Also, depending on the coverage we have, I barely have time to take lunch breaks. There are many days I won't get to eat until after 3 or 4 in the afternoon. Days off (although flexible) are hard to come by since we need to be fully-staffed. I don't want to stress out my parents.
