Senior Account Executive

Job Description

I’m still high on this job though and would recommend it to any young professional with the correct motivation. If you aren’t sure what to do and are in your 20’s-30’s I would definitely give this a shot. I like my job a lot and it suits my entrepreneurial style.

Pros

Working at a startup Marketing firm is the best thing that I could have asked for. If you like fast moving and young this is probably the industry for you. Online advertising is pretty new and most of the people in the industry are between the ages of 23-35 truthfully. I’m a young guy only 24 and had worked at IBM before as an Account Manager and it totally dragged me down. The corporate slow moving culture was too slow. I like working at smaller company in a new industry like online media because it’s new and you have the freedom to change the way things are done. I often make up new processes or can just walk into the CEO”s office and propose doing things differently. So all in all, if you like fast, new, and young this is definitely an industry I would recommend. Oh, yeah the money is pretty good too

Cons

Stability. Right then and there your benefits will not be as good. Vision plan, 401K, all the benefits that come with a bigger company are harder to come by in my job. In addition because the company is smaller, if you are doing sales or account management you are often held to revenue goals. This is a sales type pressure so if that is not your cup of tea I would recommend against this job. Lastly, things will go wrong, processes are often times manual, and you will get frustrated at the ineptitude of your co-workers.
