Retail/Wholesale

Jcrew Retail Worker

Job Description

Overall this job was fun for awhile but the pay doesn’t merit the hours. I would say if you are a shy person then maybe a job like this would make you more better at talking to people and small talk. Other than that, it beats working in a fast food joint, even if most of your money goes back to buying clothes to wear to work.

Pros

1) Discounts: You get 50% off clothes you can wear to work which is mostly the dressier stuff. For friends and family and non-dressy stuff you get a 30% off lowest market price discount. If you like JCREW clothes the this is a good summer gig for you.

2) People: I actually really liked the people I worked with asides from management. All my co-workers were really young, inbetween 20-30 years old, and that really made it fun to joke around. Usually you even hang out after work for drinks or at people’s houses because you become good friends.

3) Not Commission Driven: I like the idea that it wasn’t commission driven like places like Banana Republic. This way you didn’t feel forced to sell someone a certain shirt, you could just recommend what you thought was best.

Cons

1) Closing/Hours: This is terrible because you most definitely will have to close. That means folding clothes, cashiering, mopping, and all the rest. This can often take close to 1-2 hours after the store closes. If you work at the mall, this will end up being like 10:30-midnight. Not much left of your night after this.

2) Holiday Season: Tons of people running through the store makes it hard to help everyone and keep your area clean. The messier your area is during the day the longer it will take to fold when you are closing. During holiday season the time it takes to close will be from 2-3 hours easy.

3) Management: Typically clothing managers are really sticklers for details. They will push you harder and longer and often forget lunches and breaks.

4) Inflexible Schedule: There really is no requesting vacation and you can forget about those three day weekends if you work full-time because most of the time the mall is open during the holidays. The only way to get a day off is to trade with another employee.
